I can’t believe we’re already one month into the New Year. It feels simultaneously as though it’s been both a drag and passed in the blink of an eye. This month’s post is to announce BijouCREATES in its first ever podcast! It came about in the most unexpected of ways! My mantra for 2023 is not so much to try new things but being open to embrace the unknown. As I continue to grow and develop with BijouCREATES, I’ve decided to lean into the unpredictability that is running a small business and being aware that a new opportunity can truly emerge from anywhere.Madga and I on her Birthday ! This new wave of thinking is very much in alignment with this chance encounter that led to the podcast! I met Julia Chi blogger & life therapist, whilst in London celebrating the birthday of one of my dear friends Magda, (who also happens to be one of my fabulous brand models and a fellow Cambridge girl). This all happened during those lost days between Christmas and New Year’s. We had spent the day celebrating with an indulgent brunch at Christopher's, in Covent Garden, which ended up stretching out into the afternoon with so much chatting and enjoyment. Christopher's 18 Wellington St, London WC2E 7DDAfter an afternoon of walking around, we were back in Covent Garden with low batteries, no signal and needing a hot drink/ sweet treat to replenish ourselves. We were walking around looking for the first café we could find. Magda, who also had birthday dinner plans (because yes, my friends and I do multiple birthday celebrations in the same day don’t you?) needed desperately a way to recharge, I didn’t have the shoes for extensive walking. Initially we we just hoping to walk into a Starbucks or Costa (anything basic really), but we stumbled into Amelia, a cute French coffee & patisserie shop on Monmouth Street. We sat in the crowded, snug café chatting away, enjoying our cake and hot chocolate. Patisserie | Amelia | EnglandIt was here that we ended up engaging in a chat with a couple sitting at the table next to us which turned out to be Julia and her Magda and I were in full conversation, reminiscing our holidays and hopes for the approaching new year. If you know my I am definitely apprehensive about speaking to new people and revealing to much about myself to someone I don’t yet know. However, the conversation led to Julia enquiring about my designs and work with BijouCREATES to my great surprise I learnt that she was in fact Made in Freetown herself! Having been born there, whilst her parent were working in Sierra Leone, then later in her life living in Surrey and studying here. I have to admit I did feel such an instant connection over our similar history in such a chance meeting. We went on to talk about her about her Podcast; “Conversation with... series”, in which Julia interviews people about aspects of their life that have been or are important to them. And she invited me to be her next interview. So here we are! In our conversation join us to learn a bit more about me and a quick history of BijouCREATES with a new friend. 2023 seems to be start off with me embracing the unexpected already with a chance meeting in a London café, trying to charge my phone leading to my first podcast. Who knows what opportunities I’ll bump into next!
